Arab Attack on Constantinople

Arabians attached the Byzantine empires capital, Constantinople. They were testing the strength of the empire.  The Arabs wanted to see if Constantinople had good defensive strengths. The Arabs first attached and went into war with Constantinople in 674 C.E. until 678 C.E., they later went back to war with them in 717 until 718.
The war was between the Arab Umayyad Caliphate and the Byzantine Empire. They went into war because of the rise and converting into the Muslim religion. There were two leaders that led the war, Constantine IV who led the Byzantine Empire and Yazid who led the Arabs. The war lasted four years and was a tough battle for both sides. The Byzantine Empire ended up winning the first battle, yet they had good strategies. Since the Arabs did not win they realized they had a challenge, so a few years later they went back to war.
Four leaders two on each side led the second war. The new leaders for the Arabs were Maslamah ibn Abd al-Malik and Admiral Sulaiman; the leaders for the Byzantine Empire were Leo III and Tervel. The new leaders of the Arabs put up a fight, but still did not win. This war had lots of blood shed; the Arabs had about 130,000 and 2,500 ships of casualties and losses. There was no known recording of the casualties and losses of the Byzantine Empire.
Even though the Byzantine Empire won they still had lots of damage done. Constantinople was the last standing through the rising of the Muslim population. It eventually fell in 1453. after a war led let by Mohamed II. The war had lasted two months, April 6, 1453. until May 29, 1453. Also Mohamed was the leader of the Ottomans who had control of the Arabs who started the attaches.
The Byzantine Empire went through a lot, but even with all their wins they had to eventually lose. They lost by falling in the shortest Muslim war. The land had then been clamed by the Ottomans and it became their capital. The Ottomans renamed their new capitol Istanbul. This new empire remained until 1922 due to the empire’s dissolution.
