Significant Events during Time Period: Other religions were spreading to different parts of the world, such as Hinduism and Buddhism.  Muslims were entering India.

Characteristics at Beginning: Peaceful

Social: Trading with other areas of the world—very active in trading with Asia

Economic: Trading with many parts of Asia—vital to economy

Religious: Islam

Intellectual: Very advanced in technology—ships, trading, luxury items, etc.

Technological: Produced luxury items, sailed on ships, traded with other civilizations

Geographic: Southeast Asia and India

Demographic: Asian and Indian/Islamic peoples

Causes and Impact of Changes:
            Islamic culture spread the idea of peace to other parts of the world.  Because the people were peaceful, these countries were also peaceful.  Many areas of the world transitioned to the Islamic religion and they practiced the rituals the faith offered.  The trading was also influenced by this religion and changed as well.  However, the Muslims also tried to establish more trading centers and increased their production of luxury items and necessities to trade so they could gain their followers back.
