The Crusades

During the middle Ages, Christians and Muslims had a series of wars called the Crusades. The Christians were knights of Western Europe who were ensured to capture portions of the Islamic world which made up the Holy Land (biblical). The Crusades lasted two centuries, enough time for trade and cultural diffusion. During and after the time of the Crusades, Western Europe became largely affected by the Muslim world with its trading and culture which later led to the Renaissance and time of exploration.
There was much contact between these two civilizations with trade. Weapons, techniques, rugs, foodstuffs, etc. have been in trade. Trade was done with many elites. Shipments became larger, while the items became cheaper. Trade helped the economy boost, and towns were flourishing. The amount of landowners increased while the feudal systems began to weaken, which goes into more of the political aspects.
The Muslim culture influences knights and the people of Western Europe. Intellectually, the Europeans adopted, then mastered at Arabic Numerals. The advances that Arab and Persian thinkers had came to an advantage, and stimulated greater thinking. Chess, chivalric ideas, and foods from the Muslim world made the Western world eager to venture out and discover unknown places, create maps, and gain new knowledge.
With the economy, trade, and culture changing, people wanted to discover more things, and a rebirth was happening. They wanted to find and create a new map of the world. There was enough money to finance these expeditions, and the kings and queens allowed it. Maps were soon being drawn, compasses adopted from the Arabs were being set, and explorers were eager to get onto the seas for adventure. With the new artists drawing and creating figures, higher level of thinking was also put into play. This was known as the Renaissance. The Renaissance and the age of exploration began due to the Crusades.
Western Europe did not realize how much they would obtain from the Crusades until it started. Beginning with trade and culture, everything was unfolding. The feudal system was even weakening because of a ripple effect from the Crusades. Explorers were eager for adventure, and what they obtained was far more then what they imagined. The Western world was turning into the powerhouse because of the Crusades. The world began to change; shaping up to what it is today.
